We are a Family of artists...
The Harris Gallery was founded almost two decades ago by a second-generation artist, M.C. Harris
and his son A3L3XZAND3R, a third-generation artist.
The two-story gallery is devoted entirely to the works of these prolific painters.
M.C. Harris is known for his elegant colorist landscapes, fanciful abstract celebrations of nature, and cubist floral works.
A3L3XZAND3R HARRIS is an accomplished abstract painter, but he is also known
for his mystical cloud formations and familiar dreamlike landscapes.
The Harris Gallery is located in one of The Wine Country’s most beautiful and historic buildings
where a visit is considered an important part of the Healdsburg experience.
“The Plaza Arts Building” with its famous Italianate arches was constructed in 1908
on the NW corner of the Healdsburg Plaza in the heart of Sonoma County.
Here, the spectacular restoration proves to be the perfect setting to exhibit fabulous art.
A Second Generation Artist.
Marc Cabell Harris was born
in New York City.
His father was a jazz impresario
and surrealist painter...
His mother a writer, and fashion couturier.
He grew up in Northern California where he attended CCAC (CCA) graduating in printmaking in 1972. His first public exhibition was a two-man show in San Francisco featuring his etchings and the lithographs of M.C. Escher.
Mr. Harris later founded the Marco Polo Companies where he was known for his textile designs in the apparel and home furnishing industries. In 2000 he began to devote full time to his painting.
Recognized for his playful and exuberant style, his paintings are often described as modernist or cubist in nature. "Characteristic of M.C. Harris' work, the canvases are rendered in a vivid, expressive manner with broadly applied planes of color and the use of graceful lines to articulate forms in nature."
Like a number of early to mid-20th century modernist painters, his languid forms are organized to produce a sensual emotional response to what, in fact, is often a serene or classical subject.
The artist resides in Sonoma County where he shares a gallery in Healdsburg (The Harris Gallery) with his Son.
Mr. Harris' work is widely collected and can be found in numerous private, public and corporate collections throughout the world. He divides his time between Northern California and Santa Fe, NM.
A3L3XZAND3R L HARRIS
B 1983 A Third Generation Artist.
A3L3XZAND3R was born
in Berkeley, California.
Raised in Sonoma County on a remote ranch,
surrounded by stunning vistas and vibrant wild nature, he first moved away to pursueacademia of art to Chico, California (CSU),then Florence, Italy (Florence Academy of Art), and lastly St. Petersburg, Russia (The Repin Academy/Russian)Academy).
After his sojourning abroad, he moved back to where it all began to continue and further his pursuit of art in Healdsburg, California.
He is a thinker in the best sense of the word, exploring purpose behind action and spirit beneath reason, always searching in life and in his work for the “essence” of matter. A3 takes a creative stance to observing and follows his own advice to others: “Take a breath, enjoy what’s around you, reflect upon it, and find a way to look at it through someone else’s eyes.
Doing that will change the way you see things.”
A3L3XZAND3R’s work is widely collected and his work is included in numerous, notable, permanent, classical and contemporary, private, public and corporate collections throughout the world.
A strong believer in observing nature, his paintings, drawings and sculptures are created only from the act of observing life itself or from the pure recollection of his experiences. Directly derived from "the closest living relative of the natural world... one’s own memory".
His creations range in subject from imaginative depictions of the infinite variety of mind’s eye landscapes (usually inspired by the locales of California), to classical, contemporary, abstract figural, portrait and still-life themes. His work can be categorized as contemporary, yet maintains a sense of classicalism. Expressed in genres ranging from Realism, Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Sculpture and more. He works by taking the idea of of a person, place, object and expressing it through creating a transcendent expression of that moment in time and space dictated by the use of color, form and light.
