For the collector of art + wine, we are offering a limited edition collector’s item that showcases the artists’ work on a caliber of wine that reflects the quality of our art.

Wineartist:
Wells Guthrie

Elite winemaker, Wells Guthrie, is our Resident Wine Artist. He handcrafts a collection of Burgundian-style, lower-alcohol, fine wines from sustainably farmed vineyards for us.

All our wines are under 14% alcohol by volume.

Each wines feature multiple labels, with art from both resident artists, so the bottles themselves become collector’s items.

Every release will feature a new collection of labels for the bottles.

In the summer of 2021, we added another Wineartist to our family, Leo Hansen of Leo Steen. He makes notably some of the best Chenin Blanc we've ever tasted.

OUR WINEMAKER

Resident Wineartist, Wells Guthrie

We are incredibly lucky to be friends with arguably one of the best winemakers in California. His pedigree in the wine industry has been developed over decades of hard work that’s cultivated a palate for a true, Burgundian, beautiful wine-making style.

Wells developed his skills with farmers in the Burgundy & Rhône regions of France, honed them under master winemakers in California and put them into practice over two decades as owner/winemaker of Copain Wines in the Russian River Valley.

Today he lives with his family on a 40-acre mountain estate in the Anderson Valley, where he built a small winery and tends to seven acres of Pinot Noir, DuPuis Wines.

It is there where he creates the wines on our list today.

Robert Parker describes Wells as having "enthusiasm and passion for accessing top-notch vineyards and producing high quality wines." And notes that, "Such Old World winemaking techniques as minimal intervention, natural yeast fermentations, and no fining or filtration has resulted in thrilling wines of undeniable character and personality." (12/2005)

Steering away from “hot”, higher alcohol, heavy wines, Wells’ style of winemaking produces bright, approachable, aromatic, intricately layered wines that are under 14% alcohol.

Wineartist, Leo Hansen

We knew we wanted a Chenin Blanc in our wine portfolio, so it was a short list of one person we knew we needed to collaborate with.

Born in Denmark, Leo is a son of a hotelier and chef that spent the first half of his career as a sommelier before falling in love with winemaking. His background has given an edge to his winemaking skills. Most notably: his chenin.

Chenin Blanc vineyards in this area are rare. But the demand for this varietal is not and it's increasing. For those that tend to prefer an unoaked Chardonnay or search for lighter whites, Chenin might be just what your taste buds have been searching for. It has the nose of something sweet, a delicate mouthfeel and a bone-dry finish. But it takes a trained virtuoso to produce this varietal. In the wrong hands, it can be bland.

Leo produces three different chenin labels under his brand, Leo Steen (irony or destiny that his middle name literally translates to chenin in South Africa?!). His low alcohol, delicate winemaking style perfectly complements our wine program.

From a winemaker whose roots are in the hospitality industry, his desire to create a lovely experience for his guests translates through the production of his wines.

We're so excited for you to taste what he's made for us and get to know Leo. He and his darling family live a few blocks from Downtown Healdsburg and are wonderful participants in the local community.
